Clinical Departments
As a not-for-profit healthcare organization based in Roanoke, Va., we're focused on doing what is right for our patients without question. Education
As an academic medical center, we offer 24 fully accredited fellowship and residency programs, each designed to prepare the next generation of physicians for successful careers in medicine and research. We are also deeply invested in developing individual skills and knowledge by offering continuing education opportunities for professionals and students.

Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM)
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) formed out of an innovative public-private partnership with Virginia Tech. Together, we are working to transform health care by educating the physician leaders of tomorrow. VTCSOM uses a patient-centered curriculum designed to develop physicians who can take research from the lab to the patient’s bedside. Students learn, train and work side by side with Carilion’s highly experienced medical staff.
Research
We believe that clinical research is a central part of quality patient care. In-house research is conducted in our labs by not only our physicians, but also our nurses and other clinicians, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine students and faculty, and research professionals at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. From clinical trials on new drugs, biologics, devices and data collection registries to molecular and genetic studies of cell types, Carilion is at the forefront of medical research that enhances patient care.
