Residencies and Fellowships
As a nonprofit academic medical center, we offer residencies and fellowships for physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses—blending academic rigor with hands-on experience to support your growth and career goals.
Physician Residencies and Fellowships
The Virginia Tech Carilion Graduate Medical Education program provides training for more than 350 residents and fellows across 30 accredited programs. Based at a university-affiliated academic medical center, trainees benefit from close collaboration with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute—all located on a shared campus.
With access to a broad network of hospitals and physician practices, dedicated faculty, and a diverse patient population, learners gain the experience and support needed to grow into confident, skilled physicians.
In addition to accredited programs, we offer select non-accredited fellowships:
Pharmacy Residencies
Explore pharmacy residency opportunities across multiple locations and practice settings. These postgraduate (PGY1 and PGY2) programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy education to develop skilled, patient-centered clinicians through hands-on experience, interdisciplinary collaboration, and specialized training.
Whether in hospital, ambulatory, or community settings, these programs prepare residents for advanced practice roles, leadership opportunities, and board certification.
Advanced Practice Provider Fellowships
We offer fellowship programs for nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) designed to support a strong transition into clinical practice.
Fellows gain hands-on experience in real-world care settings while building skills through structured training, mentorship, and collaboration—supporting both professional growth and confidence in practice.
