Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)
Carilion Clinic’s Department of Nursing Research and EBP assists nurses to promote the health and well-being of the communities we serve through evidence-based practice and to find answers to their clinical questions through research and innovation.
About
About Nursing Research & EBP
The CLEAR (Carilion nurses Leading Excellence through Active Research) Model, developed by the Carilion Clinic Roanoke Campus Nursing Research Council, guides nurses through evidence-based practice, including research and quality studies when indicated. The knowledge gained through inquiry while navigating the CLEAR model supports best practice through evidence. The knowledge gained during the CLEAR process is translated into practice.
Nursing Research Fellowship
The Nursing Research Fellowship provides frontline nurses with time reassigned from patient care, education, mentorship and resources to develop and implement studies that address clinical research questions. This 12-month experience culminates in completed studies and experience with publishing and presenting the work. The ultimate goal is best practice patient care grounded in evidence.
Nursing Research Education & Conferences
Education can lead to creative and critical thinking, ensure team and communication skills, and provide lifelong learning. The nursing research department offers a robust schedule of research classes for all levels of nurse researchers, from basic to advanced classes. Other educational offerings include developing abstracts, improving editing skills, creating professional posters and open writing labs. During the week of the nurse, nurses celebrate and disseminate their studies in the Art and Science of Nursing Showcase, and in the fall more than 150 nurses gather at the Carilion Nursing Research Conference, which features national-level keynote speakers.
Nursing Peer Review and Internal Publication
Carilion Clinic has a Nursing Editorial Board that supports the dissemination of scholarly work. Members of the editorial board provide peer review for award and recognition applications, as well as Carilion Nursing’s peer reviewed publication Within REACH.
