Research is necessary to advance the quality and sophistication of health care. At Carilion Clinic, the scope of research spans basic cellular and molecular biology investigation in our science laboratories to evaluation of a new drug or device in human clinical trials. Moreover, research is carried out by a diverse collection of personnel including students, faculty, physicians, nurses and other health care providers in the organization. Furthermore, we partner with other academic institutions, foundations, industry and non-profits organizations in pursuant of cutting edge research to shape the future of health care. The coordination of these activities is managed by the Carilion Clinic Research and Development Department.
The Research and Development Department is a fully integrated organization staffed to handle all components of the research process including scientific, legal, contractual, financial, and intellectual property. In addition, the department has fifteen clinic study coordinators under the direction of Andrea Bidanset, director of clinical trials, to assist you in the design, feasibility and execution of your clinical research study. The coordinators have experience in all medical specialties at Carilion Clinic.
