Carilion Clinic Department of Cardiology Research

Carilion Clinic displays the LED heart every February as a reminder to people to take care of their hearts and to know the signs of a heart attack. In addition to treating patients, our physician-researchers also offer a significant number of cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery studies for our patients.

Carilion Clinic Cardiology research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, including structural abnormalities and pathologies, hypertension, arrhythmia, heart failure, and vascular disease.  Research spans the spectrum from large, multicenter randomized clinical trials to smaller, physician-initiated, studies conceived and conducted by Carilion cardiologists. Currently, Carilion Clinic Cardiology has over fifteen ongoing clinical trials led by Dr. Jason Forest, Dr. Chalak Berzingi, and Dr. David Sane.
