About Us
The physician liaison team is dedicated to fostering positive relationships between Carilion, referring physicians, clinicians, and their staff. They serve as a consistent point of contact for communication. The focus and effort of the liaison team help to build awareness and utilization of Carilion's care teams and services.
Our physician liaisons can:
- Provide information and education about Carilion's specialists, services, and programs
- Identify service-related issues and assist with conflict resolution
- Arrange for opportunities to meet new specialists
- Collaborate with referring clinicians and their staff to improve patient care
- Facilitate access to EpicCare Link
- Serve as the main resource for any Carilion referral-related questions

Ashlee Wesner
Ashlee has a comprehensive background of more than 15 years in healthcare; including numerous leadership roles managing and directing marketing, sales, and business development teams. Ashlee’s experience within the healthcare field spans the diverse areas of professional athlete sports performance development, medical textiles, home healthcare, and large hospital system operations.
In her current role as physician liaison, she supports the entire range of dynamic service offerings provided by the extensive Carilion network. Ashlee is passionate about improving the patient experience and fostering relationships to improve awareness of Carilion's services, specialists, and programs.

Hannah Byers
Hannah has more than 12 years of experience in marketing, sales, and communications, including 7 years in healthcare. She has served in various roles on the boards of charitable organizations in Franklin and Bedford County. She coaches and mentors young girls and women in developing professional, social, and academic skills within the New River Valley territory. She is an avid volunteer, always seeking ways to help patients and those in need.
During Hannah’s tenure with Carilion Clinic, she’s worked diligently to promote community health and assist practitioners with patient access and referrals in the New River Valley. The opportunity to assist physicians, practitioners, office staff, and patients with all Carilion-related needs and inquiries is of the utmost importance to her.

How to Refer a Patient
Electronic Referrals
Carilion uses Epic as its primary electronic medical record system, allowing patient referrals to be process digitally through Epic.
Fax Referrals
If your practice or organization doesn’t have access to Epic, download the specialty referral guide, which includes all Carilion specialties, locations, and referral contact information.
The following services require specific fax referral forms and/or clinical notes:

EpicCare Link
EpicCare Link is a secure, web-based portal that provides real-time access to shared patient information and supports smooth collaboration with our teams.
Access to EpicCare Link is managed by our privacy office, which reviews and approves all requests from external partners who need to view the electronic medical record (EMR) for mutual patients.
Steps To Request Access
Step 1: Complete the Enterprise Agreement
- Our privacy office must receive a signed Enterprise Agreement from someone with contract signing authority for the entity employing the person(s) requesting access
- This agreement must be on file before any access can be granted
Step 2: Complete the Vendor ACA (Access and Confidentiality Agreement)
- Each year, complete and return the Vendor ACA along with a copy of each user’s government-issued photo ID
- These documents are required both for initial access setup and for annual renewals
Step 3: Send required documents
- Email all completed forms and IDs to privacy@carilionclinic.org
- New user paperwork should be sent by the requestor’s office manager to confirm employment
Step 4: Privacy office review
- Once documents are received, the privacy office reviews the materials and submit the access requests for processing
