Currently operated by Med-Trans Corporation, Life-Guard provides 24-hour transport for the entire state of Virginia, as well as parts of West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Our specialized fleet of helicopters operates out of three bases throughout the state, providing fast emergency access to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center.
Our Life-Guard flight team is staffed by nationally registered paramedics, registered nurses, and FAA-trained pilots, all of whom have received specialized training and certifications in air medical transport. Air medical operations are provided by Med-Trans Corporation.

Mammography
Featured Service
We are committed to making sure that every woman has prompt and easy access to the medical resources she needs to screen for, diagnose, and treat breast cancer— which includes getting routine mammograms.
A mammogram uses low energy x-rays to generate images of your breast tissue. Carilion's skilled health care professionals will examine these images to screen for breast cancer or evaluate symptoms such as lumps or thickening. A typical mammogram takes about 20 minutes.
At Carilion Clinic, we offer the following:
- A full range of breast imaging services, from routine screening to diagnostic imaging to work-ups of breast abnormalities.
- Digital mammography, in addition to standard analog X-ray images.
- Experienced technologists, all registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), who have collectively provided nearly a quarter million mammograms over the past ten years.
- On-site reading of all mammograms by board-certified radiologists solely dedicated to reading breast images.
- Prompt, personal and sensitive communication about test results.

Billing
Medical billing is complex and can be difficult to understand. The Pay Your Bill link has information about the billing process and definitions of terms that are frequently used in medical billing to help you better understand how the billing process works.
The Hospital Charges link has spreadsheets with our hospitals' standard charges for items and services as well as charges for each diagnosis-related group (DRG). Spreadsheets list standard hospital charges and are not intended to be used to estimate your cost for receiving care.
Your total bill will depend on a number of factors. Some of these include patient acuity (how sick you are), the specific services you receive and the specific products that are ordered by your clinician. You will receive separate bills for hospital services and for physician services. If you have insurance, your out-of-pocket cost is based on the terms of your insurance plan and rates for services negotiated by your insurance company.
Pricing fluctuations may occur, and we will post periodic updates to this list. If you have questions, please contact Billing Customer Service at 540-983-4294 or toll free at 866-720-3742.
Parking
CRBH has a main entrance (1) and an emergency department entrance (2) at the front of the building with parking in front for patients and visitors. An information desk is located in the main lobby. To access therapy services and Fit for Life, use the lower parking lot to the right side of the hospital and come in entrance 3.
A printable version of the hospital layout is available. See Campus Map under patient resources.
Accepted Insurance
Carilion Clinic contracts with most major health insurance carriers. This list is updated periodically and is subject to change without notice. Please contact your insurance company or health benefits manager to better understand how your policy works and any financial liability that you may have, prior to receiving care.
