We specialize in addressing a range of diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addiction and other conditions, guiding patients toward sustained well-being.

A hospital-based mental health program located in the ED

Our Comprehensive psychiatric emergency program (CPEP) is available 24/7 to help patients in mental health crises. The CPEP program can be accessed through voluntary admission to the ED, by law enforcement or court order. Care teams connect patients with ongoing assistance close to home, avoiding hospital admission if possible. Care includes a spectrum of treatments that favor the safest, least restrictive options. If needed, patients are admitted to Carilion’s inpatient psychiatric facility or transferred to alternate facilities.

CONNECT is a confidential, 24-hour emergency evaluation and referral service provided by Carilion Clinic to members of our community. CONNECT is staffed by psychiatric nurses and clinical social workers trained to help people access psychiatric and behavioral medicine support.
