U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Carilion in the 2023-24 Best Hospitals Rankings

Summary

U.S. News & World Report released its latest hospital rankings, and Carilion received several honors.

The system’s flagship hospital, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, ranked fourth overall in Virginia. It was also named among the elite 12% percent of hospitals nationwide to win “Best” honors by U.S. News & World Report, maintaining its title of “Best Regional Hospital” in southwestern Virginia.

Roanoke Memorial was rated as high performing in 16 categories and two specialties:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
  • Acute kidney failure
  • COPD
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Diabetes
  • Heart attack
  • Heart bypass surgery
  • Hip replacement

Several Carilion community hospitals also received high-performing marks. Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, Carilion Giles Community Hospital, Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital were recognized as high performing in COPD. New River also earned additional high-performing status in treating kidney failure and heart failure.

“These rankings and ratings speak to our teams’ passion and dedication to quality and patient safety,” said Steve Arner, president and chief operating officer of Carilion. “I am so proud of the care our teams provide every single day.
