New Entrance for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 19, there is a new entrance for the Emergency Department (ED) at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH).

Carilion is closing the Weller Lane ED entrance to continue construction work for the new Crystal Spring Tower. Weller Lane will be demolished so utilities can be installed. The space will eventually become part of an expanded ED that will connect to the Crystal Spring Tower.

The new entrance for patients is located in the garage area under the ED. It will be staffed 24/7 and has an elevator that takes patients directly to the ED on the 2nd floor. There is also a new ambulance bay with space for 7 ambulances at the front of the hospital.

Here’s how the new entrance will work:

  • For patients/visitors arriving by foot or walking from one of the other parking garages: Patients/visitors should enter the ED garage located next to the new ambulance bay. The new ED entrance is located in the middle of the garage. Patients/visitors should go through the double doors and use the elevator or stairs to go to the ED on the 2nd floor. The ED is also accessible from inside the hospital by taking the south elevator to the 2nd floor and following signs to the ED.
  • For cars/trucks: Vehicles should enter the garage to the right of the ambulance bay. Once inside the garage, the new entrance will be on the left. Patients should go through the double doors and use the elevator or stairs to go to the ED on the 2nd floor. Guest Services will direct drivers where to park.

The new ED entrance will be in place for approximately 3 years, until the expanded ED opens.
