Nancy Howell Agee Named to Modern Healthcare's 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives List

Carilion Clinic President and CEO Nancy Howell Agee is among the 2022 class of Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives. This award program honors individuals in healthcare who are deemed by their peers and the magazine’s senior editors of to be paving the way to better health through their executive responsibility, leadership qualities, innovation, community service and achievements inside and outside of their respective organizations.

“We are proud to recognize those leaders who have risen to the occasion and then some,” says Fawn Lopez, publisher of Modern Healthcare. “These 50 honorees have demonstrated leadership and innovation in a time of crisis and made a vital impact on the success of their organizations, the well-being of the healthcare workforce and the health of their patients and communities. Agee was recognized for her lifelong dedication to healthcare, beginning her career as a nurse in 1973 and rising as an industry thought leader throughout her nearly 50-year career. She was also highlighted for establishing Carilion Innovation and strengthening private-public partnerships such as those with Virginia Tech and Radford University. Her visionary leadership has helped  position Carilion and the larger region as a center for development and exploration aimed at improving patient care and outcomes.

Agee was first named to Modern Healthcare’s biennial 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives list in 2019.

Ms. Agee is a nationally recognized health care leader and past Chair of the American Hospital Association. Modern Healthcare named her one of 2021’s Women Leaders Luminaries that recognizes executives whose careers have been defined by reshaping the industry. She was first named to Modern Healthcare’s biennial list of Top 25 Women Leaders in 2017 and is perennially among its 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.
