The Carilion Clinic Department of Emergency Medicine is starting enrollment for Phase 1 of its NIH SBIR-funded clinical trial being conducted in partnership with BRAINBox Solutions, Inc. The HeadSMART Geriatric Feasibility Study seeks to develop a diagnostic aid that can distinguish mild traumatic brain injury from cognitive impairment or dementia in patients 65 or older. Over the next several months we will be enrolling 100 research participants that will include those with suspected head trauma as well as controls. Dr. Damon Kuehl is the Carilion PI, and Jared Gordon is the Clinical Research Coordinator who will be supporting this work along with several Clinical Research Assistants.
