Fortune Magazine names Carilion among "Most Innovative Companies"

Carilion Clinic has been named to the Fortune magazine list of America's Most Innovative Companies 2023. The list was created in partnership with market research and data company Statista and recognizes 300 companies determined to be "transforming industries from the inside out."

Carilion ranks #140 on the list, which includes 58 hospitals and healthcare systems.

Fortune evaluated companies from mid-August through late December last year. Thousands of employees, management consultants, patent attorneys, recruiters and human resources experts were surveyed about how companies spark innovation through research and development, product invention, process streamlining, and collaborative and thoughtful leadership.

The ranking is based on a methodology resulting in scores in three categories: 

• Product innovation — based on analyzing the intellectual property (IP) portfolio covering a company's products and services. 
• Process innovation — reviewing a company's sourcing, production, marketing, sales and support.
• Innovation culture — with attention to how a company promotes entrepreneurship and creativity among employees and allows teams to carry out new ideas.
