Carilion Clinic again earns Fortune Magazine's "America's Most Innovative Companies" honor
Carilion among 44 other healthcare honorees
Carilion Clinic was again named to Fortune magazine’s “America's Most Innovative Companies” list. Compiled with market research and data company Statista, the 2024 list identifies 200 companies chosen for “transforming industries from the inside out.”
Carilion ranks #122 on the list, 18 spots higher than 2023. This year's list was trimmed from 2023's 300 companies.
There are 21 hospitals and healthcare systems among 44 healthcare honorees. It’s the second consecutive year Carilion has been honored, and Carilion is the only Virginia hospital or healthcare system in the 2024 rankings.
Fortune evaluated companies from mid-September through late November 2023. Thousands of employees, management consultants, patent attorneys, recruiters and human resources experts were surveyed about how companies spark innovation through research and development, product invention, process streamlining and collaborative and thoughtful leadership.
The ranking is based on a methodology resulting in scores in three categories:
- Product innovation — A company's products and services, covering attractiveness, design, usability, uniqueness and other criteria
- Process innovation — Analyzing all company processes, from sourcing and production to marketing, sales and support.
- Innovation culture — Measuring to what extent a company fosters a spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity internally and allows ideas to be implemented.
