2024 Registration Is Open for Carilion Summer Camps

Summary

Every year, Carilion offers summer camp options for different groups of kids and teens. Registration is now open for all camps.

Camp Treehouse

In session May 18, Registration required

Camp Treehouse is a free day-camp for children and teens, grades K-8, that have lost a loved one. The camp provides a caring, safe environment where youth can explore their feelings and concerns. This year's camp will be held in Fincastle on May 18 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (exact location to be confirmed upon registration).  

As part of Carilion’s Center for Grief and Healing, camps are guided by licensed counselors and local artists. To register, download the application here or call 540-527-4869 for more information.

Camp Carilion

In session June 25-28, Registration deadline is April 12

Carilion Clinic, Radford University School of Nursing and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine are offering Camp Carilion Clinic for rising ninth and tenth-graders or above who may be interested in a future career in healthcare. Throughout the four-day camp, students will have an opportunity to learn life-saving information through hands-on exercises and interactive demonstrations, including: 

  • What to do in the event of an accident or life-threatening situation
  • Trauma-related injuries and prevention 
  • Nursing skills
  • CPR training
  • Respiratory therapy
  • Operating Room procedures, techniques, and instruments

Camp Too Sweet

In session July 8-12, Registration deadline is May 20

At Camp Too Sweet, all campers have diabetes, so children won't feel alone or different. Carilion provides positive role models to help kids establish healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Camp Too Sweet focuses on helping campers accept their diabetes, teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle—and most importantly, on having fun! Campers interact with other kids just like themselves, who are facing the same challenges, in the beautiful and exciting setting of a residential camp.

Camp Too Sweet offers a fun-filled experience for kids 8-17 that will skills that will last a lifetime. Activities include:

  • Group games
  • Crafts
  • Music and singing
  • Equestrian activities (English-style ring riding)
  • Campfires
  • Swimming
  • Adventure tubing on James River
  • Low-ropes group challenges
  • High-ropes course (campers junior high age and older)
  • Creek exploration
  • Hiking camp trails
  • Polar bear swims
  • Educational sessions on diabetes care
