As Chief Operating Officer, Steve Arner oversees the operations of Carilion Medical Center and physician practices. 

Mr. Arner began his career at Carilion in 1996 as a financial analyst and has served as budget manager, Human Resources compensation and analytics director, hospital administrator at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital and senior vice president of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Services.

Mr. Arner serves as the chair on the board of directors for the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association and is the past state delegate of the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board. He serves on the strategic planning committee for the America’s Essential Hospitals board of directors and  is also on the board of directors for the Feeding America Southwest Virginia. In addition to his work at Carilion, Mr. Arner was an associate in CIGNA’s HealthCare Leadership Program from 2002 to 2003
