Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Care in Carilion Children’s NICU is led by neonatologists, doctors specially trained to treat newborn babies. The NICU team also includes neonatal N.P.s; R.N.s; registered respiratory therapists; physical, speech and occupational therapists; child life specialists and lactation consultants.

Carilion Children's offers the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in western Virginia. The eight-bed unit is supported by dedicated pediatric nurses, pediatric pharmacists, dieticians, child life specialists and a full range of pediatric therapist to care for its patients.
Pediatric Inpatient Unit
Carilion Children's offers a 24-bed inpatient unit to care for patients with a wide variety of issues. While patients are in the hospital, the five-member pediatric hospitalist team works very closely with our pediatric subspecialists and surgical specialists to provide the best care possible.
Child Life Program
The Child Life Program is managed by a team of individuals specifically trained and certified to help children, adolescents and families understand the illness, necessary treatment plan and hospitalization. The Child Life Program is the only program of its kind in western Virginia.

Carilion Children’s offers specialized transportation designed to transport infants and children—even premature newborns. Each is custom-outfitted with the most advanced lifesaving medical equipment available, carries two self-contained incubator units and is large enough for two care teams.

Carilion Children's Hospital includes the region's first Emergency Department devoted to caring for acutely ill and injured children. The pediatric ED is staffed by pediatric physicians and nurses who are specially trained to understand and meet the unique physical and emotional needs of children.

The Carilion Children's Hospital is located in the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Please use the South elevators to the 11th floor, at the entrance to Pediatric ward, for the PICU and the inpatient units. The NICU is located on the 14th floor.

Meet the Team
Carilion Children’s Hospital offers a team of more than 20 hospitalists, intensivists, and neonatologists to treat newborns to children up to 18. The team also includes dedicated pediatric nurses, pediatric pharmacists, dieticians, child life specialists and a full range of pediatric therapists.
