Care in Carilion Children’s NICU is led by neonatologists, doctors specially trained to treat newborn babies. The NICU team also includes neonatal N.P.s; R.N.s; registered respiratory therapists; physical, speech and occupational therapists; child life specialists and lactation consultants.

Carilion Children's offers the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in western Virginia. The eight-bed unit is supported by dedicated pediatric nurses, pediatric pharmacists, dieticians, child life specialists and a full range of pediatric therapist to care for its patients.

Carilion Children’s offers specialized transportation designed to transport infants and children—even premature newborns. Each is custom-outfitted with the most advanced lifesaving medical equipment available, carries two self-contained incubator units and is large enough for two care teams.
