Biography
Dr. John H. Burton is Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine, Carilion Clinic, based in Roanoke, Virginia. Dr. Burton also serves as the Chair and Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Dr. Burton joined Carilion in May 2010. Prior to arriving at Carilion Clinic, he was Program Director of the Residency Program and Vice Chairman for Academic Affairs for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Albany (N.Y.) Medical College. Dr. Burton also has served as Medical Director for the State of Maine Emergency Medical Services; Director of Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland; and Faculty Member in Emergency Medicine at the University of Vermont. The author or co-author of numerous articles and book chapters, Dr. Burton's research interests include the areas of procedural sedation for emergency department patients, and emergency medical services. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Burton enjoys climbing, mountaineering and road biking.
