Biography
Adegbenga A. Bankole began practicing rheumatology in 2009 when he joined Carilion Clinic.
He completed his medical education at the University of Ibadan. He then attended State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York where he completed his internship, internal medicine residency, and Rheumatology fellowship.
Dr. Bankole specializes systemic lupus erythematous (SLE), but has clinical expertise in Myositis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriasis, Scleroderma, Spondyloarthritis, Vasculitis, Sjögren’s syndrome and Gout. He runs the ultrasound clinic where he performs ultrasound guided procedures including carpal tunnel injections, joint and bursa aspiration and injection and trigger finger injections.
He is committed to medical service and works/volunteers nationally with the American College of Rheumatology. He is an executive committee member of the Virginia Society of Rheumatology. He continues to be active in the Lupus Foundation of America and Arthritis foundation.
Dr. Bankole currently serves as Division Chief of Rheumatology. He holds an academic appointment as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and is the Program Director for the Rheumatology Fellowship program. He is actively involved in clinical research, clinical drug trials and in educating the next generation of physicians.
Dr. Bankole gets immense joy and satisfaction in helping patients improve the quality of their life by taking part in the management of their health care. He most enjoys the relationships he develops with his patients and shares a positive outlook throughout their medical journey.
