U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Carilion Roanoke Memorial as a Best Hospital for Maternity Care

US News 22-23 Maternity Badge

U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in hospital rankings and consumer advice, has named Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a 2022-2023 High Performing hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

The award highlights the special dedication of Carilion teams as they guide expectant parents through a new and challenging experience.

This prestigious recognition is measured by several factors, including:

  • Newborn complication rates
  • C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies
  • Exclusive breast milk feeding rates
  • Early elective delivery rates
  • Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) rates

U.S. News evaluated nearly 650 hospitals that provide high-quality labor & delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies for its 2022-2023 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Fewer than half received a High Performing designation.

“We are honored by this recognition,” said Isaiah Johnson, M.D., interim chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “This speaks to our compassionate, expert teams who are dedicated to caring for our community every day.”

Roanoke Memorial has the largest and most experienced maternity center and neonatal intensive care unit in southwest Virginia. All birthing rooms are fully equipped with the most up–to–date obstetrical and fetal monitoring technology. In addition, Carilion provides 14 locations for Obstetrics and Gynecology across southwest Virginia. Care is available in a range of specialties from prenatal to postpartum, as well as treatment of other women’s health issues.
