Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation operates the region's premier emergency ground transport system, covering all of Virginia and West Virginia, with bases in Roanoke, Lexington, Westlake, Franklin, Giles, and Radford. We also accept transports to and from other states.
Our fleet of 40 advanced life-support ambulances and staff of 230 employees, that also includes a bike EMS team, are ready to respond to any emergency 24 hours a day.
We also have specialized transportation that is designed to transport infants and children—even premature newborns—by ground or air to serve our smallest emergency patients. It is custom-outfitted with the most advanced life-saving medical equipment available, carries two self-contained incubator units and is large enough for two care teams.

Certified as the region’s only Level 1 trauma center since 1983, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is prepared to treat the most critical types of injuries. And with more than a 15,000-square-mile coverage area that includes two major interstates and thousands of acres of national forest, it’s a lot.
We see patients who have received an injury that must be treated in a very narrow window of time in order for the patient to survive. Whether it’s a mountain biking or river accident, or injuries sustained in a multi-car crash, our interdisciplinary team of full time trauma surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, nurses, specialists, therapists and technicians is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide immediate care.

Life-Guard air transportation

Every second counts after an accident or other medical emergency. Our Life-Guard team takes to the air to get expert medical care to patients who need it immediately if we can't get there by ambulance.
In 1981, Carilion Clinic Life-Guard became Virginia's first air ambulance service. Currently operated by Med-Trans Corporation, Life-Guard provides 24-hour transport for the entire state of Virginia, as well as parts of West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Our specialized fleet of helicopters operates out of three bases throughout the state, providing fast emergency access to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center.
Our Life-Guard flight team is staffed by nationally registered paramedics, registered nurses, and FAA-trained pilots, all of whom have received specialized training and certifications in air medical transport. Air medical operations are provided by Med-Trans Corporation.
Carilion Clinic Life-Guard is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS).

Billing

The Hospital Charges link has spreadsheets with our hospitals' standard charges for items and services as well as charges for each diagnosis-related group (DRG). Spreadsheets list standard hospital charges and are not intended to be used to estimate your cost for receiving care.
Your total bill will depend on a number of factors. Some of these include patient acuity (how sick you are), the specific services you receive and the specific products that are ordered by your care team. You will receive separate bills for hospital services and for physician services. If you have insurance, your out-of-pocket cost is based on the terms of your insurance plan and rates for services negotiated by your insurance company.

Parking
The entrance provides a convenient drop-off point with check-in just a few feet away when you enter. The ground level houses our reserved parking for ED patients and where we'll discharge patients. Free visitor parking is available in the Terrace View Parking Deck located on Hamilton Terrace. Take a garage elevator to the first floor to reach the walkway that connects the garage to the ground floor lobby. More parking is available in the Riverwalk Parking Deck off Jefferson St., which connects to the walkway across the river to the front entrance.
