Maintaining good nutrition is an important part of cancer treatment. Our registered dietitians are trained specialists available to help assess the particular needs of cancer patients.
The services include performing nutritional assessments and developing and implementing nutritional care plans, as well as providing nutritional counseling. Counseling covers education on modified diets, symptom and weight management, nutrition support therapies, complementary nutritional approaches and optimizing wellness for cancer survivorship.

Your doctor or clinical care giver may refer any patient who is experiencing significant difficulties through the course of treatments.

At Carilion Clinic, we offer palliative care to improve the quality of life for anyone suffering from advanced or disabling illness.
The palliative care team consists of nurses, advanced practice nurses, bereavement counselors, fellows, residents and physicians with support by chaplaincy, dietary, social workers, case managers and pharmacy services. Together, they provide comprehensive management of patients’ physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs while supporting their families/caregivers.
If the time arrives when a patient chooses to discontinue treatment, you can trust that Carilion Clinic Hospice will support you and those close to you.
Pediatric palliative care

Violet M. Borowicz, M.D., leads the palliative care program at Carilion Children’s. This program seeks to improve the quality of life for children suffering from advanced or disabling illness. The pediatric palliative care team provides comprehensive management of patients’ physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs while supporting their families/caregivers. If the time arrives when a patient or family chooses to transition care, the pediatric palliative care team will work with Carilion Hospice or other local hospice programs to facilitate care.
