The Birthplace
New families just starting out, and families that are growing, can rely on us to provide a safe, comfortable and caring environment to welcome their little ones. We have the largest and most experienced maternity center and neonatal intensive care unit in southwest Virginia.
About The Birthplace
Our birthing rooms are designed for your comfort and support so you can labor and deliver in the same bed. All rooms are fully equipped with the most up–to–date obstetrical and fetal monitoring technology. We offer labor-support tubs, birthing balls, peanut balls, a squatting bar and more to aid in delivery.
After delivery at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, you will be moved together to a new room in the Mother/Baby Unit. At Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, you will stay together in the same room where you delivered. If you plan to breastfeed, our lactation consultants and postpartum nurses will answer any questions you may have. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for newborns who need intensive medical care.

CertaScan, the Latest in Infant Identification Technology
The Birthplace at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Carilion New River Valley Hospital now offer CertaScan. This cutting-edge system for identifying infants replaces ink with a digital image of newborn footprints. Parents will also receive a printout of their newborn's footprints.
