Our text feature through ScriptPro’s Pharmacy Management System features:
- An interactive voice response (IVR) that empowers patients to request refills via phone call
- Patients are presented with the real-time status of each prescription, such as ready for refill, no refills, too soon, and expired
- If a prescription is expired, the caller can request the pharmacy to contact their doctor
- Patients can opt in for pick-up reminders, refill reminders and automatic refill for prescriptions

What is Carilion Clinic Specialty Pharmacy?
Carilion Clinic Specialty Pharmacy is a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and clinical specialists here to support patients who take specialty medications—complex, potentially high-cost medications that deserve their own designation and pharmacy staff.
Our specialty pharmacists are trained experts on the medication you are taking. Our team offers specialized services for your unique needs—like help with side effect management, ongoing health monitoring and special storage and handling for medications that require it.
If your physician has referred you to a specialty pharmacy, the medication you’ve been prescribed may not even be available at your usual pharmacy due to its complexity and cost. This is where we come in.

Have your medication and any related supplies you need delivered directly to your door.
Financial Assistance
Specialty medications can be expensive. If cost is a concern for you, let us know and we will look for all available financial assistance (we also do this automatically any time a copay is $100 or more).
Insurance Navigation
Working with insurance companies is our job, not yours. We’ll work with your insurance on getting prior authorization to cover the costs of your medication.
Ongoing Support
Specialty medications can feel complicated, and you may have questions about how to succeed with your prescription. We’re here to help. Participate in our patient management program for ongoing health monitoring, get refill reminders and call us 24/7 for urgent questions.
Patient Management Program
Enrollment in our Patient Management Program (PMP) is voluntary and available at no cost to you.
What's included in the program?
- Advice and information about the appropriate use of medications
- Resources to help ensure medications are being taken as prescribed
- Continuity of care—we work with you, your physicians and other health professionals to ensure that prescribed medications will give the best health outcomes
- Advice on managing side effects and adverse events of medications
- Self-care and general health strategies
- Personal attention and 24/7 service
The goal of the PMP is to ensure that your drug therapy results in the best possible outcomes and improves your overall health. Our pharmacists will work with you directly to discuss your treatment plan, problems, concerns and questions you may have about your specialty drugs.

Can I opt out of the PMP?
You may enroll in or opt out of the free PMP at any time. To opt out, call 714-456-3699.

For urgent questions that cannot wait until the next business day, please call 540-772-8700 and ask for the “specialty pharmacist on call.” The operator will assist you.
