Biography
Dr. Stubbs attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia (VCU Health Systems). She completed her Family Medicine residency at Carilion Clinic in 2013 and joined Carilion Family Practice in Rocky Mount, VA where she served as a primary care physician for 7 years. There she developed a passion for rural community health and the service of elderly patients. In 2020, Dr. Stubbs joined the Center for Healthy Aging where she continues to serve as the Medical Director for Franklin Health and Rehabilitation, the Medical Director of the Franklin County Home Health Dementia Team, and as a physician for home visits for geriatric assessment in Franklin and Henry Counties.
Dr. Stubbs holds an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) and serves on the Board of Directors for Franklin Memorial Hospital. Her interests include memory disorders, medical ethics, advanced care planning, capacity evaluations, and helping patients and families navigate the complex medical and psychosocial challenges of aging in the 21st century. She enjoys teaching medical students and residents about the needs of the elderly population in the post-acute and long-term care setting, in the home, and at the Remote Area Medical Clinic where she sometimes volunteers.
Dr. Stubbs lives in Rocky Mount with her husband, two daughters, two cats, and a mountain of craft supplies and board games. She will converse ad infinitum about the challenges of capacity determination, advanced care planning, musical theater, coffee, gaming, baking, and knitting.
