Biography
Originally from Los Altos, CA, Dr. Joy is an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, VA. He received his undergraduate degree in Studio Jazz Guitar Performance from the University of Southern California in 2004. After a brief career as a professional musician, he returned to USC and completed the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program in 2009. Dr. Joy graduated as a member of the charter class of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, VA in 2014 and continued with his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the same institution graduating in 2020. Following residency, he completed his fellowship training in reconstructive microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania.
His interests include complex reconstruction of the head and neck, breast and extremities as well as limb salvage, and the surgical treatment of lymphedema.
