Biography
Zachary E. Holcomb, M.D., was born and raised in southwest Virginia. He graduated summa cum laude from The University of Virginia’s College at Wise with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He then attended Duke University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Subsequently, he pursued both internal medicine and dermatology residency training at the Harvard Combined Internal Medicine-Dermatology training program in Boston. After 5 years of intensive training with international leaders in complex medical dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Lahey Hospital, Dr. Holcomb has returned home to southwest Virginia to serve patients in his home region.
Dr. Holcomb currently serves as a Director of the Cutaneous Autoimmune and Connective Tissue Diseases Program as well as Director of the Dermatology Inpatient Service at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. In addition to general dermatology, his training has afforded him expertise in the overlap between rheumatology and dermatology, including autoimmune skin conditions such as dermatomyositis, lupus, morphea, systemic sclerosis/scleroderma, vasculitis, and other connective tissue diseases.
Dr. Holcomb enjoys academic medicine and has a special interest in medical education. He currently serves as the Associate Program Director for the dermatology residency program at Carilion Clinic. His ongoing research interests are focused on connective tissue diseases and complex medical dermatology. Dr. Holcomb has authored multiple textbook chapters and first-author publications in leading academic medical journals, and has also given lectures at local and regional meetings. He is committed to providing excellent, personalized care and looks forward to working to find the best treatment plans for all his patients.
