Biography
Dr. Coffey-Vega, a southwestern Virginia native, has worked as an internist, geriatrician and hospice and palliative care physician in various institutions and venues of care since graduating AOA from University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. Medicine is her second career. Before attending medical school she earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech and had a successful design and quality engineering career.
Dr. Coffey-Vega has both trained and worked in various institutions across the state of Virginia including University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and the McGuire VA Medical Center. She has rendered and led clinical efforts in hospital medicine, geriatrics, and hospice and palliative care in a large variety of venues including ambulatory, consultative, telemedicine, inpatient medicine, inpatient hospice, subacute rehab and long term care settings. She has also served as medical director of ambulatory and consultative clinics at PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) and in the UVA Interactive Home Monitoring program.
Dr. Coffey-Vega is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM). She has been deeply involved in medical student, resident and fellow education throughout her career. She practices primarily at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, focusing on geriatric consultation within the hospital as well as quality improvement in transitions of care and post acute care. Her areas of expertise and interest also include Complimentary and Alternative Medicine including acupuncture and Veteran's Health.
