Biography
Dr. Aubrey Knight is the Section Chief for Geriatric Medicine at Carilion Clinic and Professor of Medicine and Family & Community Medicine at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Dr. Knight graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed a family medicine residency at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke and a geriatric medicine fellowship at the University of Maryland. Dr. Knight is board certified in Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and of the American Geriatric Society.
Dr. Knight's career has focused on medical education. He has been a family medicine residency director as well as the program director for a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship and was the founding program director for the Carilion Geriatric Medicine fellowship program. Dr. Knight spent 15 years in the dean’s office at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine as Senior Dean for Student Affairs and Director of the Phase 2 curriculum. Dr. Knight has collaborates with the Virginia Tech Center for Gerontology on research related to aging and caregiving.
Dr. Knight has been recognized in The Roanoker magazine as one of Roanoke’s “Top Docs,” in Virginia Living as a 2020 Top Doctor, and by Our Health Magazine for “Best Bedside Manner.” He has served on the Medical Scientific Committee for the Alzheimer's Association and the Advisory Board for the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He was a member of the ACGME Geriatric Medicine Milestone 2.0 Working Group which developed the current Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Milestones. He is an inductee into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
