PGY 2 Internal Medicine Residency Program
Program Description
The PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program is currently in the third year. The emphasis of this program is to develop pharmacists with expertise in internal medicine pharmacotherapy. Graduates of our PGY2 program will be prepared to practice as clinical specialists in Internal Medicine and serve as preceptors for residents and students.
Residents will have the opportunity to continue to build clinical and leadership skills, and to assist in precepting both students and PGY1 residents. Residents will progress through a series of customized, one-month focused learning experiences in addition to longitudinal learning experiences during the 12-month period.

Application Requirements
Interested candidates shall have completed (or currently be completing) an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency. Additionally, candidates must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or be in the process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP). Applicants should also be eligible for Virginia licensure. Our application for the PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program requires submission of the following information through PhORCAS:
- Letter of Intent
- This letter must be personalized to Carilion and include answers to the following two questions.
- Why do you want to complete a PGY2 Residency in Internal Medicine?
- Why do you want to complete your residency training at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital?
- This letter must be personalized to Carilion and include answers to the following two questions.
- Curriculum vitae
- Please ensure that completed and anticipated PGY-1 residency rotations are included
- A minimum of three (3) references submitted through PhORCAS
- All must be able to speak to clinical skills developed during direct patient care experiences and comment on at least 75% of the available comment fields within PhORCAS.
- Inclusion of PGY-1 Residency Program Director as a reference is strongly encouraged
- Official School of Pharmacy transcript
