Air Fryer French Fries

By Recipe Team on February 20, 2026
The heart-healthier version of your favorite side.

French fries are a go-to comfort food—but traditional deep-fried versions can be high in saturated fat, sodium, and calories. With this air fryer version from the American Heart Association, you can get the same crispy satisfaction in a lighter, more heart-conscious way.

Tip: Be sure to cut the potatoes the same size to ensure even cooking.

Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper (coarsely ground preferred)
2 large russet potatoes (about 1 pound), cut lengthwise into 1/4-inch slices
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin preferred)
1/4 teaspoon salt, OR
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation:
  1. If using a basket-style air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 380°F. If using a toaster style air-fryer, preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together the garlic powder and pepper.
  3. Add the potatoes to a large bowl. Drizzle with the oil, tossing to coat.
  4. Sprinkle the garlic powder mixture over the potatoes, tossing to coat.
  5. Arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket or on the air fryer rack. (Don’t overcrowd; work in batches if needed.) If using a basket-style air fryer, cook for 12 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once halfway through. If using a toaster-style air fryer, cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once halfway through.
  6. Sprinkle with the salt or Parmesan.
  7. Serve immediately.
