The heart-healthier version of your favorite side.
French fries are a go-to comfort food—but traditional deep-fried versions can be high in saturated fat, sodium, and calories. With this air fryer version from the American Heart Association, you can get the same crispy satisfaction in a lighter, more heart-conscious way.
Tip: Be sure to cut the potatoes the same size to ensure even cooking.
Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper (coarsely ground preferred)
2 large russet potatoes (about 1 pound), cut lengthwise into 1/4-inch slices
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin preferred)
1/4 teaspoon salt, OR
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation:
- If using a basket-style air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 380°F. If using a toaster style air-fryer, preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together the garlic powder and pepper.
- Add the potatoes to a large bowl. Drizzle with the oil, tossing to coat.
- Sprinkle the garlic powder mixture over the potatoes, tossing to coat.
- Arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket or on the air fryer rack. (Don’t overcrowd; work in batches if needed.) If using a basket-style air fryer, cook for 12 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once halfway through. If using a toaster-style air fryer, cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once halfway through.
- Sprinkle with the salt or Parmesan.
- Serve immediately.
