About

Program Overview

We provide the majority of adult medical care at each hospital. At CRMH, the average daily census is approximately 260. In general, we have 14 rounders, one admitter and three consult services (inpatient, rehab and psychiatry) with advanced practitioner support. There are three nocturnists each evening on staggered shifts, with night cross-coverage by three advanced practitioners. Carilion New River Valley Medical Center has five rounders, one swing, one nocturnist and advanced practitioner support. Carilion hospitals in Franklin, Rockbridge and Giles counties have 25 beds each.

All physicians and advanced practitioners are Carilion employees. We sponsor a 1-year advanced practitioner fellowship in Hospital Medicine, and many graduates join our practice. Faculty appointments are with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, a college of Virginia Tech. Opportunities for teaching exist, but are not required. The Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion Internal Medicine Residency has 69 residents and a 96 percent ABIM exam pass rate. Many Hospitalists in our section are graduates of our own Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residencies.

Virginia Tech Carilion Partnership

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is across the street from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and has 49 students per year.
