Congratulations to Our Shine 2018 Award Recipients!
Congratulations to the recipients of the 2018 Carilion Clinic President's Award, Provider Excellence Awards, Quality Awards and Values Awards, and thanks to each of you for everything you do.

President's Award
The President's Award is given to an individual for a career of extraordinary accomplishments. This year, there are two recipients:
- William Battin, supervisor for Engineering and Maintenance in Roanoke
- Charlie Tarasidis, pharmacist at CNRV
Provider Excellence Awards
- Gary Simonds, M.D., Chief of Neurosurgery, received the Provider Excellence Award for Physicians.
- Heather Schopf, P.A., Surgery/Otolaryngology, received the Provider Excellence Award for Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
- Lindsay Borden, M.D., Obstetrics & Gynecology, received the Provider Excellence Award for Residents and Fellows.
Quality Awards
The Carilion Clinic Quality Awards highlight individuals and teams who have identified and implemented ways to improve the care and services we provide:
- The Interventional Radiology Biopsy Orders Process Improvement team from CRMH received the Pioneer Award, which recognizes improvement projects that have a relatively smaller, focused scope of change.
- The GYN Surgery team from CNRV received the Community Distinction Award, which recognizes exceptional projects at our community hospitals.
- The C.diff SIR Reduction team from CRMH received the Enterprise Award, which recognizes cross-disciplinary projects with a larger scope.
- The Responsible Narcotic Prescription team from our Orthopaedic section received the Hold-the-Gains Award, which recognizes sustained success.
- The What You Don't Know Is Alarming: Reducing Alarms in the ED team from CRMH received the MVP Award for the best overall project.
Values Awards
The Carilion Clinic Values Awards recognize individuals and teams who go above and beyond in their work each day.
- The Commitment Award was given to The Soul Survivors team from Hospice.
- The CommUNITY Award was given to the #ALLIN team.
- The Compassion Award was given to Wayne Knight with Environmental Services at CRMH (awarded posthumously).
- The Courage Award was given to Lauren Johnson with Medical/Surgical at CRBH.
- The Curiosity Award was given to Dan Freeman, with Trauma Services in Roanoke.
