About This Study
Summary
Measurement-based care (MBC) uses patient-reported outcome measures to inform clinical decision-making and treatment. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of MBC in adults with depressive and anxiety disorders in a psychotherapy setting. Participants will complete questionnaires before their therapy sessions and will be randomized into a treatment group that decides whether the clinicians will use these results to monitor symptoms and make decisions regarding treatment.
To be included in MBC, participants must be / have
- Adults over 18
- Able to complete questionnaires via email or cell phone
- Able to attend 12 weekly psychotherapy sessions
To be included in MBC, participants must not be / have
- Intellectual disability or non-verbal
- Unable to provide consent or complete questionnaires
- Currently receiving psychotherapy elsewhere
- Significant suicidal/homicidal risk

Virginia O’Brien, MD, is the system-wide director for ambulatory services and an associate professor at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. She has more than 14 years of clinical experience. She completed residency training in a combined internal medicine and psychiatry program at Rush University in Chicago and is board certified in both disciplines.
