Biography
Dr. Harris earned his medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internship at Pinnacle Health Hospital System in Harrisburg, Pa. He completed residencies in pediatric orthopaedics, trauma and foot and ankle at Pinnacle Health Hospital System, Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Dr. Harris joined Carilion Clinic in 2013 while completing a fellowship for adult reconstruction and total joint.
A joint replacement specialist, Dr. Harris clinical expertise includes primary knee and hip replacement, anterior total hip replacement, revision hip and knee replacement, shoulder pathology, trauma and fracture care and general orthopaedics.
Dr. Harris is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy Hip and Knee Surgeons. He holds an academic appointment as an assistant professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, as well as Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Harris has additionally been in the United States Air Force since 1997. As a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force, Dr. Harris was named Operational Safety Flight Surgeon of the Year in 2008, and has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He continues to serve as an active member of the Air National Guard.
In his personal time, Dr. Harris enjoys traveling, flying, hiking, spending time with his wife and three children. The most gratifying part about his work is bringing the latest in surgical techniques and technology to patients in the New River Valley who otherwise would have to travel to obtain care.
