Biography
Laura Kurdila, Ph.D. is a licensed Clinical Health Psychologist; she earned her Ph.D. through the doctoral program at East Carolina University and undergraduate degrees in Psychology, Neuroscience and Business Administration from Central Michigan University. She has the Health Service Provider certification through the National Health Register. She holds clinical, medical education and leadership roles within the Virginia Tech-Carilion Family Medicine (VTC-FM) Residency Program.
In her clinical role, Dr. Kurdila practices as a Behavioral Health Consultant and oversees the primary care behavioral health (PCBH) services at Carilion Clinic Family Medicine in Roanoke Salem and Southeast clinics. She provides treatment for individuals with behavioral and mental health conditions and difficulties with chronic disease self-management. She is trained in multiple evidence-based treatment modalities including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Health Behavior Change and Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Processing Therapy. Her clinical interests include behavioral weight management, health behavior change, mindfulness-based treatment, multimorbidity, and adult ADHD and executive functioning.
Dr. Kurdila serves as the Associate Program Director and on faculty within the VTC-FM residency, where she is involved in curriculum development and development of resident individualized education plans. She oversees the behavioral medicine and psychiatry curriculum at VTC-FM. Other specific teaching areas include interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, well-being, and providing biopsychosocial care for rural and underserved patients.
