Biography
Dr. Drougas grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, and attended boarding school in New England for high school. He went on to study at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he played collegiate tennis and earned Academic All-American honors for two years. He double-majored in chemistry and history.
Dr. Drougas then attended medical school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Initially interested in transplant surgery, he completed two years of basic research in liver transplantation before ultimately choosing a career in vascular surgery. He completed his fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1997, Dr. Drougas moved to Roanoke, Virginia, to join Jefferson Surgical Clinic. The opportunity to work alongside three surgeons who had also trained at Vanderbilt was a strong draw, as was his wife’s family ties to Charlottesville, Virginia. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Virginia Tech and serves as Section Chief for the Vascular Surgery service line.
Dr. Drougas has two grown children and enjoys spending his free time playing tennis and pickleball throughout the Roanoke Valley.
