Biography
Frannie Gaeta, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker providing psychotherapy to adult and adolescent individuals. She received her Master’s in Social Work from Radford University's School of Social Work in 2011. She obtained her license in 2016 after completing her residency at Family Service of the Roanoke Valley. Frannie has worked for Carilion since 2007 as a Hospice social worker. During that time, she completed an internship and worked part-time in Palliative Care. She began working in the outpatient clinic in 2017 with a focus on grief and loss.
Prior to coming to Carilion Clinic, Frannie worked in the foster care system for 12 years. Her work was in a residential setting, local Department of Social Services, and a local treatment foster care agency. During that time, she worked with children, adolescents, and their families who had experienced trauma and loss.
Frannie's philosophy as a grief therapist includes providing patient-centered, evidenced-based care to support individuals as they move through their grief process. Harnessing grief models and theories with empathy and compassion can help bereaved patients process. She believes grief therapy requires full presence of the clinician, while blending a safe space, respect and honor of the patient’s right to self-determination, and evidence-based practices in the field of death, dying and bereavement. Frannie is trained in multiple evidenced-based treatments that can treat grief symptoms. She is interested in learning new, current ways to educate, support, and treat symptoms of grief. Learning new approaches leads to better outcomes therefore, the bereaved are able to heal and find enjoyment in life.
