Biography

Dr. Nardecchia is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with Carilion Clinic in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is committed to helping others change their lives in positive ways through individual therapy, family consultation and skill building, and psychological assessments for diagnostic clarification and treatment planning. She works with older children, adolescents, guardians, and parents dealing with many challenges that life may bring, including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and self-esteem issues. She draws from a variety of approaches in her therapy/counseling work that is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including family systems, relational, motivational, and psychodynamic techniques in order to tailor each treatment plan to the unique needs of the client. CBT is a problem solving and action-oriented type of therapy with the goal of changing unhelpful or unhealthy thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. During therapy, she works with clients in a process of looking at what is happening and seeing how they can get through difficult times. Together, they identify new ways of approaching issues in life. Dr. Nardecchia helps them to develop more effective tools for dealing with what they are currently experiencing, as well as for getting them to where they want to be. She is also an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine VA Tech Carilion School of Medicine. She has the honor of working with Psychiatry Residents, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows, and other specializations such as nursing and pediatrics as part of their training and supervision.
