PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program
About the Program
The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at Carilion Clinic is a 52-week program designed to prepare residents to practice independently as a clinical pharmacy specialist in ambulatory care settings. Carilion offers a multidisciplinary learning environment that emphasizes patient-centered care and collaboration.
Residents will gain clinical experience in chronic disease state management across multiple settings including primary care, cardiology and endocrinology. Residents will have the opportunity to provide care to patient populations ranging from the Shenandoah Valley to Southwest Virginia through established collaborative practice agreements, provision of patient education on medications and devices, and optimization of medication regimens to promote adherence to guideline-directed therapy. In addition, residents will develop leadership skills in ambulatory practice at both local and system levels and contribute to the education of healthcare professionals through experiential and didactic teaching opportunities.

Qualifications
All candidates must be graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and be eligible for pharmacist licensure in Virginia. Applicants shall have completed (or currently be completing) an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency. If accepted into the program, a valid license to practice pharmacy in the state of Virginia must be obtained.
