Department of Adult Inpatient Psychiatry (Roanoke Valley)
About
Program Overview
For individuals who are in crisis, or who may be at risk of harming themselves or others, our Roanoke location has 36 adult beds and 14 child and adolescent beds. The goal of our adult inpatient psychiatric program is to keep people safe in a healing environment. Treatment plans are highly individualized developed in collaboration with the patient. Our goal is to collaborate with the patient to get them better. An adult inpatient stay lasts five to seven days. We begin planning for discharge on day one, establishing goals and helping patients progress toward them so that they can return home as soon as possible.
Virginia Tech Carilion Partnership
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) formed out of an innovative public-private partnership with Virginia Tech. Together, we are working to transform mental health care by educating the physician leaders of tomorrow. VTCSOM uses a patient-centered curriculum designed to develop physicians who can take research from the lab to patient treatment. Students learn, train and work side by side with Carilion’s highly experienced psychiatry staff.
Mission, Goals and Strengths
Our mission is to advance the mental and physical health of our communities, and to become an internationally recognized pioneer of clinical excellence through the dedicated integration of education, discovery and recovery. The Division of Adult Inpatient Psychiatry provides excellent care for adults coping with mental illnesses.
