Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

In 2007, Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech joined together to create a unique public-private partnership that was aimed at transforming health care through research and educating the physician leaders of tomorrow. The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute, known collectively as Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC), allows both organizations to leverage their strengths—Virginia Tech’s sciences, bioinformatics and engineering expertise and Carilion’s clinical and educational expertise—to improve the health and lives of individuals in the local region and beyond.

Residencies

The Virginia Tech Carilion Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program offers comprehensive training at a large, tertiary hospital affiliated with a university system and medical school. Our aim is to graduate physicians who can practice independently, and we help our residents achieve this goal through teaching, clinical experiences, mentorship and research. Our teaching faculty is comprised of attending physicians from all subspecialties (gynecology oncology, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, pediatric adolescent gynecology, and maternal fetal medicine) as well as a robust generalist division. We offer high-risk obstetrical training and our residents benefit from a diverse patient population. Residents receive comprehensive gynecologic surgery training that includes laparoscopic, vaginal and robotic approaches. We have a two-year, repeating didactic curriculum which incorporates simulation as well as a research curriculum with support to complete a quality improvement or research project.
