As the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospital for Southwest Virginia, Carilion Children’s partners with local businesses and organizations to support fundraising campaigns that directly benefit children in our region. These efforts help fund critical medical care, specialized equipment, and therapy programs that save and improve young lives—close to home.

About Children’s Miracle Network
Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America. Each year, CMN supports more than 170 member hospitals that provide advanced medical care, life-saving research, and preventive education to millions of children.
Since its founding in 1983, Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than $7 billion to support pediatric healthcare in the United States and Canada.
Making a local impact
Donations raised through CMN-sponsored activities stay in the community. As a CMN hospital, Carilion Children’s benefits directly from fundraising efforts at regional CMN retailers and partner organizations. These funds support our greatest needs, including patient care, research and community health programs.
Carilion Children’s and Children’s Miracle Network have partnered for more than 11 years, raising more than $10 million to help local children receive the care they need.

Local Champion: Meet Madi
Treated for malrotation of small intestine
Born at 38 weeks via an emergency footling breech delivery, Madi entered the world silently with an Apgar score of 0 and was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Carilion Children’s.
Doctors placed her on a cooling bed to slow brain and organ damage, and she spent 31 days fighting for her life. When discharged, she went home with a G-tube for feeding. Just 10 days later, Madi returned in critical condition. Emergency surgery revealed a malrotation with volvulus, and she was septic. During her hospitalization, she endured 4 surgeries, including the removal of half her small intestine.
In total, Madi spent 144 days at Carilion Children’s, where her care team stood beside her family through every setback and victory. Discharged at 6 months old, Madi has needed only two hospital visits since. Now 4, her story is one of resilience and the life-saving care of Carilion Children’s.
Thanks to donations, Children’s Miracle Network helps hospitals provide life-saving care, innovative treatments, and vital equipment, giving kids like Madi the chance to grow up strong and chase their dreams.
