Department of Interventional Radiology
About
Program Overview
Our team is an experienced and collaborative group that is ready to listen and provide the most advanced multidisciplinary care. Our inpatient service provides efficient consults and communication with patients, families and inpatient multispecialty teams. Our freestanding outpatient clinic provides easy access for referring patients and continuity of care with a dedicated clinical team.
Virginia Tech Carilion Partnership
Third- and fourth-year medical students spend time rotating through IR while on their core radiology rotation. Third- and fourth-year medical students interested in more hands-on experience have the opportunity for dedicated two-week and four-week rotations as well as a four-week acting internship. In collaboration with the Internal Medicine residency program, second- and third-year Internal Medicine residents can gain hands-on experience with paracentesis, thoracentesis and lumbar punctures with dedicated one- and two-week IR rotations.
Mission, Goals and Strengths
Our team is service focused and committed to providing multidisciplinary care to the same level found at urban academic medical centers. Our physicians take care of patients as a team, affording most patients the focus and dedication of not just one, but multiple IR physicians who can collaborate to provide the best care possible.
