Affirmative Action Plan
Carilion Clinic is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action as set forth in company policy and the Carilion Affirmative Action Plan (AAP). Carilion’s AAP and equal employment opportunity policy are governed by state and federal regulations.
Equal Opportunity
It is the responsibility of every manager and supervisor to ensure that all current and prospective employees are provided equal opportunities in all aspects of employment and personnel management. Every Carilion employee has the responsibility of treating each other in the workplace with mutual respect regardless of race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, disability, genetic information, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or other protected category.
When requested, Carilion provides reasonable accommodation for disabilities unless the accommodation would cause an undue hardship.
An essential part of Carilion’s AAP requires that all employees work together to develop an environment that fosters mutual employee respect and promotes a harmonious, productive workplace free of harassment, intimidation or any other form of discrimination as mentioned above. Any employee who has a question or concern regarding discrimination, sexual harassment or harassment of any other nature is encouraged to bring it to the attention of his or her immediate manager. Issues involving an employee’s immediate manager may be directed to the next higher level manager. The employee’s Human Resources Consultant also is available to assist the employee.
Disability Inclusion
Voluntarily self-identifying a disability is important. This video explains why companies like Carilion doing business with the federal government ask job applicants and employees to voluntarily self-identify if they have a disability, and the important role that self-identifying plays in ensuring equal employment opportunity for people with disabilities.
