Is WATCHMAN Right for You?

Are you currently on blood thinners for AFib?

Do you want to find a better way to reduce your risk of stroke?

Carilion Clinic can help. We are pleased to provide AFib patients with an alternative outside the pill box: WATCHMAN.

WATCHMAN is a left atrial appendage closure device for patients with AFib not caused by a heart valve problem who need an alternative to warfarin for reducing their stroke risk.

The one-time WATCHMAN procedure takes less than an hour and is a proven long-term alternative to warfarin therapy.

  • Are you at risk for a serious bleed?
  • Does your work put you at a high risk for bleeding or falling (examples include driver, construction worker, machinist or pilot)?
  • Have you been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AFib) NOT caused by a heart valve problem?
  • Do you have decreased stability, mobility, or vision that puts you at an increased risk of falls?
  • Do you have a history of major bleeding, such as GI, intracerebral or subdural bleeding?
  • Do you have a history of minor bleeding, such as frequent nose bleeds or easy bruising?
  • Do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for bleeding (examples include thrombocytopenia, cancer or risk of tumor-associated bleeding)?
