Observing Health care Professionals at Carilion Clinic
The Job Shadow program is designed to provide opportunities to learn about health careers while observing staff and patient interaction. Participants do not take part in hands-on care as part of this experience.
***Due to changes in the Carilion Clinic visitation policy, observations for students under the age of 18 are temporarily suspended. This website will updated when restrictions have been lifted. Thank your for your understanding as we strive to provide the best care for our patients and their familes.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must have completed a Tuberculosis screening within the previous 12 months. Students will shadow in their specified area of interest a maximum of three 4- or 8-hour sessions.
How to Apply
Those interested in participating in the Job Shadow program must complete the Application for Observation (.pdf).
Applicants should complete the TB Screening before completing the application form itself. When completing the application form, carefully note the deadlines described on the application cover letter. After submitting your application, check email frequently, including Junk and Spam folders.
Under no circumstances may you shadow without first having received a confirmation email from Carilion’s Visiting Student Affairs Office.
