Yep, it exists—and it’s often misdiagnosed.
Mandeep Rana, M.D.Pediatric Neurology Section Chief"I am inspired by my patients and their families. I believe holistic, comprehensive, family centered care is the core for helping a child/family cope with the neurological disorder and achieve best quality of life."

The physicians in our practice have been serving children in this area since 1975 and our focus is providing accessible and quality care. The pediatric neurology department presently includes three pediatric neurologists and a certified pediatric nurse practitioner.

All three neurologists are certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology. Additional individual certifications include the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, the American Board of Pediatrics and American Board of Sleep Medicine.

Our office includes an outpatient pediatric electroencephalography lab. Additional services include long term video electroencephalograms and sedated electroencephalography in cooperation with the inpatient services at Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital.

Tourette syndrome is a disorder of the nervous system that causes repetitive tics (uncontrolled, repetitive vocal sounds or muscle jerks that happen suddenly). Mild symptoms can begin in children as early as 5 years old and include repeated blinking of the eyes or blurting out unusual sounds.

A migraine is a recurring, moderate to severe headache that can occur at any age. While more frequent in boys during early childhood and prepuberty, young women are more often affected during adolescence. The exact nature of migraines is unknown but can be hereditary in a large percentage of cases.

Epilepsy occurs when nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed. It is the fourth most common disorder of the nervous system, affecting both children and adults of all races and ethnic backgrounds. Epilepsy may occur because of a genetic disorder or a brain injury, such as a trauma or stroke.
