In the process of managing developmental and behavioral conditions sometimes medication intervention is indicated. Our clinician’s work together with your family to select the appropriate medication and closely monitor your child’s response and medication’s effectiveness.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a disability that affects a child’s social skills, communication, and behavior. Parents may notice symptoms as early as infancy. Symptoms are usually present before the age of 3 years old. The earlier a diagnosis can be made the sooner interventions can be started.

ADHD is one of the most common childhood neurodevelopmental disorders. Assessment includes diagnostic interview of the child and parent/guardian, medical examination, screening for other behavioral and developmental conditions, Parent and Teacher Rating scales, or testing to rule out other causes.

Through telemedicine, we are able to reach our families in remote areas of Virginia and West Virginia.

We collaborate with specialists throughout Carilion Children’s and the child's family to ensure children receive exceptional care. We are passionate about providing quality family centered care. Our team is committed to connecting patients and families to communities supports and resources.

Upon receiving referrals to the Child Development Clinic, our referral coordinator assesses the needs of the child based on the report from the referring caregiver. Based on the concerns of the parent and/or healthcare professional and the child’s age, they will be scheduled in an appropriate clinic spot.
