Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care is specialized medical care that focuses on providing a person relief from the symptoms and stressors of a serious illness with the goal of improving their quality of life.
In Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care, we help patients, families and caregivers throughout the span of serious illness by respecting choices for treatment and defining achievable goals. This specialized care is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment.
Our team includes palliative medicine doctors, nurses and other specialists who work together with the patient's other medical providers in order to give an extra layer of support, including patients’ and families’ physical, psychological, social, spiritual and bereavement needs. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
We offer both inpatient care and consultative services within the hospital as well as appointments in an outpatient office. While most patients can be seen in an outpatient setting, the inpatient unit is available when needed for comprehensive, interdisciplinary care.
